This ceramic fireplace decoration the Meeting of Volga Svyatoslavovich and Mikula Selyaninovich awarded with the gold medal at the Exposition Universelle in Paris in 1900 is a true gem of the exhibition. The piece was manufactured at Abramtsevo pottery workshop in 1898-1899 after the design by M.A. Vrubel. This is confirmed by an inscription that was found in the lower left corner of the majolica pane during restoration: "Created at S.I. Mamontov's after a drawing by Vrubel". This is one of the five extant fireplaces that vary in colours and certain details. This particular piece was created for exhibition purposes and never had a practical function. According to the specialists this variant is the closest to that exhibited in Paris and may by the author's copy.
