Woodwork and Bone Work Department

This simple and plain item of furniture is decorated with painted inserts on wooden panes. The author of the paintings is Vladimir Ivanovich Sokolov – a person of great significance and importance for Sergiev Posad artistic school. He had been the head of the painting carpentry workshop for several decades. The technique in which the panes are decorated was developed by the author himself in the beginning of the 20th century. The contours are burned out, and the painting is made by means of oil paints pouring. The favourite motifs of the author were rustic landscapes, and that is not without reason, as Sokolov was the pupil of I.I. Levitan.
