Many researchers believe that the sculpture A Girl Wearing a Wreath depicts the main heroine of the series of sculptures devoted to the characters of the opera The Snow Maiden by N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov. The series was created by M.A. Vrubel in 1890-s. It is difficult to ignore the likeness between the Girl Wearing a Wreath and the painting The Snow Maiden also created by Vrubel. What is more, the sculpture has certain portrait features of the artist's wife N.I. Zabelaya who played this role.
